About The Position

Hedrick Gardner Kincheloe & Garofalo LLP is seeking an Associate Attorney for its Civil Litigation practice. The role handles a diverse portfolio of complex litigation matters and provides hands-on experience throughout the litigation process. The attorney manages assigned cases, develops litigation strategies, works with clients and supervising attorneys, and contributes to resolving matters through negotiation, motion practice, arbitration, and trial. The position offers courtroom experience, direct client interaction, and professional growth within a collaborative litigation practice. The practice covers commercial litigation, product liability, premises liability, motor vehicle negligence, personal injury defense, construction defect and construction litigation, professional liability, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, and regulatory and administrative matters. The position is hybrid after an initial in-office training period.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in North Carolina.
At least one year of civil litigation experience.
Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills, including the ability to draft clear and persuasive litigation documents.
Experience or developed aptitude in trial preparation, deposition practice, legal writing, and legal research.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong oral advocacy, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Commitment to exceptional client service and achieving favorable outcomes through strategic, practical representation.
Ability to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.

Nice To Haves

Civil litigation experience in commercial litigation, insurance defense, professional liability defense, or construction defect litigation.
Interest in gaining hands-on experience throughout civil litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.
Strong judgment and interest in building a long-term career with the firm's collaborative litigation practice.

Responsibilities

Manage various aspects of assigned civil litigation cases.
Develop case strategy and proactively plan litigation approaches.
Conduct legal research and evaluate legal issues.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation-related documents.
Manage written discovery.
Take and defend depositions.
Prepare for trial and appear before state and federal courts.
Work with clients, partners, supervising attorneys, and opposing counsel to develop facts and present persuasive arguments.
Communicate regularly with clients and supervising attorneys.
Contribute to resolving matters through negotiation, motion practice, arbitration, and trial.
