About The Position

BlackRock Financial Management, Inc. is seeking an Associate, Application Engineer for their San Francisco, CA location. This role involves developing and maintaining backend services and APIs, writing clean and efficient code, implementing database queries, integrating backend components, debugging applications, and participating in Agile/Scrum activities. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, follow best practices for development processes, and utilize AI-powered tools to enhance development efficiency. Continuous learning and skill improvement are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or as a Software Development Engineer, or a related role.
  • Two (2) years of experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
  • Two (2) years of experience with Java.
  • Two (2) years of experience with Backend and Full-Stack enterprise application development, building apps or services from the ground up and scaling at an enterprise level.
  • Two (2) years of experience applying Design Patterns for scalable, maintainable code.
  • Two (2) years of experience with SQL, Stored Procedures, and Relational Data Modeling.
  • Two (2) years of experience with JUnit Testing with coverage standards and Mocking Frameworks (Mockito).
  • Two (2) years of experience with Kafka for Messaging and Event-Driven Architecture.
  • Two (2) years of experience with Modern DevOps practices and CI/CD Workflows.
  • Two (2) years of experience with Cloud Infrastructure including AWS and Azure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring frameworks.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code following established coding standards.
  • Implement database queries and updates for relational databases (SQL Server) and work with NoSQL databases (Apache Cassandra) for data storage and retrieval.
  • Integrate backend components with internal systems using RESTful APIs.
  • Debug and fix defects in backend applications; assist in troubleshooting production issues.
  • Participate in Agile and Scrum activities such as daily stand-ups and sprint tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver features on time.
  • Follow best practices for version control, build processes, and deployment.
  • Utilize AI-powered tools for improving development efficiency.
  • Continuously learn new technologies and improve coding skills.
