About The Position

SLR Consulting (Americas) is seeking a skilled and experienced Air Quality Engineer or Scientist to join their expanding Air Quality Permitting and Compliance Team in Anchorage, Alaska. This full-time position offers a dynamic range of responsibilities, requiring adaptability and a broad skill set. It presents an exciting opportunity to contribute technical expertise to complex air quality permitting projects across industries such as oil & gas, mining, chemical, energy, and other industrial sectors — both within Alaska and across the United States. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in air quality consulting or related disciplines
  • Strong understanding of State of Alaska and Federal air quality regulations, including Title V, PSD, GHG and Emissions Inventory Reporting, NSPS, and NESHAP
  • Proven experience supporting clients in maintaining compliance with applicable air quality programs and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment, managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality work
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities
  • Demonstrated experience solving environmental challenges, calculating air emissions, and interpreting complex regulations
  • Strong technical writing skills, with a track record of producing comprehensive technical reports
  • Experience engaging with State and Federal regulatory agencies
  • Effective time management across multiple project tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel by air and car, including occasional overnight trips

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to SLR and client-specific health, safety, and environmental policies including compliance with drug and alcohol requirements
  • Support air quality permitting, compliance reporting, and field data collection activities under the guidance of a Principal or Senior Project Manager
  • Collaborate with project team members to develop, review, and deliver permit applications and technical reports
  • Mentor junior staff and foster skill development within the team
  • Learn and apply compliance reporting software tools effectively
  • Provide technical expertise on regulatory frameworks, engineering approaches and investigative method relevant to project work.
  • Assist clients in implementing and managing air quality compliance programs
  • Prepare proposals and present technical solutions to a diverse client base
  • Build and maintain client relationships through consistent delivery of high-quality technical work
  • Participate in short-duration travel for client meetings and project-related activities
