Associate Aerostructures Realibility Analyst

University of Dayton•Layton, UT

About The Position

UDRI is seeking an entry- to mid-level reliability analyst to support aerostructures research projects, with an emphasis on aircraft landing gear systems. The analyst will assist with reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) analyses; parsing and analyzing large datasets or information databases; and communicating analysis topics with internal and external customers. Additional duties may include generating bills of materials, assessing military technical orders, developing algorithms for probabilistic and risk assessments, creating CAD solid models, and preparing technical documentation such as presentations, reports, drawings, and other engineering data. The position is part of UDRI’s Aerostructures Team, which works with airframe structures, landing gear, tires, transparency systems, radome structures, and engine components. The team belongs to the Structures Group, which conducts structures-related research and development and solves complex engineering problems. The Aerostructures Team and Structures Group contribute to the Structures and Materials Division, which provides capabilities in systems engineering, design and redesign, analysis, prototyping and fabrication, testing, and qualification to transition hardware solutions for air and ground vehicles and complex test equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degrees must be from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Coursework or practical experience with reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) analyses.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with engineers and current or potential customers.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a timely manner.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to requirements of research contracts with the U.S. federal government.
  • Must be able to pass a National Agency Check.
  • For the R2 level: at least 3 years of relevant experience and in-depth knowledge of basic reliability and structural mechanics principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate-level training in a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • One year of experience using Siemens Maintenance Aware Design Ecosystem (MADE).
  • Coursework or practical experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar codes.
  • One year of experience using MATLAB and Simulink or similar codes.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and structural systems, especially landing gear systems.
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and performance metrics such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
  • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Support aerostructures research projects, particularly those involving aircraft landing gear systems.
