About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Reporting and Reinsurance, the Associate Accountant assists in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Responsibilities also include maintenance of fixed asset ledger, journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations. The associate accountant is expected to have strong customer service skills as they work with members across the enterprise, our external members, business partners, auditors and the general public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, required
  • Proficient in Microsoft excel
  • Basic knowledge of Accounting/ Finance principles and concepts
  • Basic understanding of department functions and basic understanding of accounting processes
  • Basic analytical problem solving with the ability to identify challenges and solve problems
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Team player; builds relationships across the enterprise
  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Acts with integrity, is ethical, and maintains professionalism
  • Flexible and adaptive

Nice To Haves

  • 0-1+ years’ experience within finance, preferred
  • Willingness to learn about property-liability insurance company operations and not-for-profit entities

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monthly accounting entries and preparation of supporting documentation and reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed assets including ledger entries.
  • Responsible for various procedures (e.g., balancing, reconciliations, etc.) to maintain segregation of duties and controls per monthly closing schedule.
  • Maintains member surplus balances including ledger entries.
  • Assists senior and senior level accounting team and FP&A team with reconciliations, research and general ledger activities.
  • Meets reporting deadlines with accuracy through effective time management
  • Learns and utilizes accounting and auditing best practices
