Learn more about RayzeBio: https://careers.bms.com/rayzebio/ The Associate Director, Medical Physicist will be responsible for applying their deep expertise in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging (including PET, SPECT, 3D autoradiography instrumentation and quantitative analysis), radiopharmaceutical-specific radiobiology and/or dose modeling and machine learning to drive innovation and ensure the highest standards in both preclinical and clinical programs. The Associate Director, Medical Physicist will lead and coordinate imaging and dosimetry activities across multidisciplinary teams, oversee translational dosimetry analysis (incorporating alpha imaging-enabled modeling or physiologically-based pharmacokinetics and compartmental modeling as appropriate), support clinical studies and manage collaborations with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and scientific partners. The ideal candidate will execute conventional RPT physics approaches with ease, drive deep-learning based innovations with a passion to advance imaging technologies and/or dose projection modeling, contribute to protocol and strategy development, and provide technical support and training, all while championing quality practices and regulatory compliance in the adoption of novel radioisotopes and modeling approaches, including for alpha-emitting radiotherapeutics.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Medical Physics, Nuclear Medicine, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline, with didactic training in dosimetry-enabling image-quantification and/or RPT biodistribution, kinetics and dose modelling.
  • 7+ years of experience in molecular imaging and RPT dose modelling research or extensive RPT-specific publications (7+).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in industry in a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Subject Matter Expert with extensive experience in radiopharmaceutical development for oncology, including theranostic pairs and alpha-emitter technologies, able to support all aspects of micro and macro internal dosimetry analysis and/or mathematical pharmacokinetic modeling, including extensive experience with instrumentation (e.g. PET, SPECT, autoradiography), image reconstruction, and clinical applications as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and analyze dosimetry data from preclinical experiments as well as support clinical research involving conventional and advanced imaging innovations, leading translational dosimetry data collection and analysis, and ensuring data quality control and standardization processes aligned with current literature and global guidelines.
  • Passion for advancing medical physics knowledge and pioneering innovative radiopharmaceutical technologies, including deep learning-based methods for image reconstruction and evaluation of novel radioisotopes.
  • Familiarity with clinical scanner models and experience in developing imaging protocols, manuals, analysis plans and clinical study reports across phases 1 to 4 trials and providing technical expertise for supporting regulatory submissions.
  • Technical proficiency with scanner and dosimetry software, coding and/or simulation, modeling, and statistical tools such as 3D-RD-S, MIM, MIRDcalc, OLINDA, Torch, GATE, SIMIND, SAAM II, SimBiology, Python, Matlab, R, SPSS, ITK-snap, 3D Slicer, Elastix, or deep learning-based image reconstruction algorithms.
  • Proven track record in managing and coordinating cross-functional teams, aligning stakeholders, and delivering on corporate timelines in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively with minimal supervision while adapting to a constantly changing environment; recognized leadership skills, professional ethics, integrity, and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to leverage AI to drive program, portfolio, or functional performance through prioritization and scaled adoption
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present and discuss complex imaging and dosimetry topics clearly and concisely to global scientific audiences, regulatory bodies, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 10-15%), including participation in conferences, industry events, and evening/weekend engagements as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of internal dosimetry and quantitative imaging analysis in the discovery and development of radiopharmaceutical imaging and therapeutic agents.
  • Initiate, design, and execute imaging strategies for preclinical and clinical studies, including protocol development, imaging manuals, statistical analysis plans, and clinical trial reporting.
  • Perform advanced dosimetric analysis and modeling from imaging modalities (e.g., PET, SPECT, CT, 3D autoradiography), including kinetic modeling, compartmental analysis, and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling to assess drug uptake, distribution, and translation from animal to human.
  • Oversee and optimize image data quality control, including standardization processes, calibration, and quality assurance, aligned with current industry guidelines and literature.
  • Innovate and implement new imaging technologies, reconstruction algorithms, and modeling approaches to enhance diagnostic accuracy, therapeutic efficacy, and radiopharmaceutical development, including novel radioisotopes (e.g. alpha-emitters).
  • Manage and support relationships with imaging and dosimetry vendors, CROs, external investigators, and government agencies.
  • Provide expert technical support, training, and problem-solving solutions to cross-functional teams throughout the organization.
  • Contribute to regulatory activities, claims strategies, and the advancement of medical physics knowledge in radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Communicate complex imaging and dosimetry topics clearly and concisely to internal and external scientific stakeholders.
  • Organize, prioritize, and deliver on corporate timelines in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain professional ethics, integrity, leadership, and confidentiality, and stay current with global dosimetry guidelines and advances in radiopharmaceutical science.
