About The Position

Provides quality therapeutic medical physics support within a collaborative team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists. Works within established protocols to ensure the safe and effective use of radiation in treatment. Assists with treatment planning and delivery processes, supports the implementation of new technologies, and contributes to departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiatives. Participates in the systemwide medical physics QA/QC program by performing routine measurements, equipment checks, data collection, and documentation in alignment with AAPM/ASTRO/ACR/ACRO standards while building competency. Performs all Virginia Department of Health and North Carolina Radioactive Materials licenses regulatory tasks at their required frequency and maintains accurate records of equipment tests results, daily, weekly, monthly, semiannually and annual surveys, radiopharmaceutical ordering, receiving, administration and waste disposal. Maintains strict adherence to radiation safety policies and demonstrates ongoing professional development toward ABR certification.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree REQUIRED
  • ABR Eligible REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED
  • Candidates with a doctoral degree (PhD) in a field other than Medical Physics must also have completed a CAMPEP (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs) accredited Medical Physics certificate program to qualify.
