About The Position

The Assistive Technology Specialist is responsible for the coordination of internal & external needs assessments, program materials, and assistance with adaptive materials for, use of, purchase and inventory of adaptive and assistive devices. They will coordinate with Program Directors, Coordinators, and third-party contractors for the initiation and long-term success of the AT program for Spring Dell.

Requirements

  • Technical knowledge of assistive and adaptive devices and software

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at once and to work independently

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Full drivers license
  • Clean driving record with 2 years driving experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Maryland Technology First initiative
  • Knowledge and experience of DDA, MDTAP, and the PCP process
  • Knowledge and compliance with the ADA and other accessibility related laws and regulations
  • Experience and understanding of accessibility testing, and technology assessments
  • Experience using common assistive technologies including screen readers, magnifiers, and voice recognition products
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years working with individuals with disabilities

Nice To Haves

  • Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and track informal reviews and formal assessments in preparation to and as part of the Person-Centered Planning process. Take action to coordinate needed equipment, software, and technology as an outcome of recommendations
  • Coordinate equipment fittings and follow-up appointments with nursing staff
  • Coordinate purchases as recommended through either an internal or external assessment
  • Maintain technology inventories and ensure all devices and software remain updated and repaired
  • Research and evaluate new and emerging technology solutions that support people with physical, sensory, and/or intellectual disabilities to improve their overall quality of life
  • Collaborate with program management to assess, recommend, and integrate technology solutions into various environments
  • Maintain professional, courteous interactions with coworkers and individuals while safeguarding confidentiality
  • Learning and understanding Spring Dell Center’s operations and systems across all departments to ensure positive workflow
  • Ensure quality control; look for ways to improve and promote quality
  • Provide a quarterly report and submit it to the Program Director
  • Initiate and implement goal planning as part of the SDC strategic planning process through Program Director
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and computer-related training
  • Comply with Agency Policies and Procedures.
  • Support the Agency’s Mission, Goals and Values.
  • Ensure new employees are familiar with the Agency’s Assistive Technology program
  • Maintain Accountability to the Community & Employment Program Director
  • Acquire and maintain all required certifications, as needed.
  • Attend all meetings and training courses
  • Participate in agency functions and fundraisers
  • Perform duties and responsibilities as required within the scope of the position.
