About The Position

Auto Warehousing (AWC) is North America's leader in finished vehicle logistics, family-owned and operated for over 50 years. Our mission is to service customer vehicles safely, efficiently, with quality and pride. The Chicago Ford location is hiring several Assistant Yard Supervisors for open day and night shifts. This role interfaces with all AWC associates and management personnel, customer representatives, trucking company representatives, and AWC office staff. The overall objective is to maintain a safe, efficient, and even flow of traffic in the yard.

Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of yard layout.
  • Ability to instruct others effectively and give directions or feedback to others in a diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret vehicle identification numbers and vehicle colors.
  • Ability to work and drive in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to keep confidential any work documents seen or conversation heard during performance of job duties.
  • Positive demeanor.
  • Ability to conduct him/herself in a manner that maintains a positive work atmosphere through positive communication and professional and ethical behavior to build and maintain excellent working relationship with customers, vendors, co-workers and management.
  • Good and regular attendance.
  • Ability to pass the Safe Driving quiz with 80% accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and speak English for proprietary software and to give instructions and understand pre-shift instructions.
  • Excellent vision.
  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to meet AWC MVR minimum standards.
  • One-two years of passenger transport experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain e-RailSafe clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the New Vehicle Transporters and Transfer crew associates to and from bay locations, inbound receiving and load staging area.
  • Accurately complete all receiving, storage, and releasing paperwork.
  • Ensure that customer vehicles are pulled in an efficient and accurate order according to customer requests and AWC needs.
  • Assign work to New Vehicle Transporters, Transfer Crew and temporary workers.
  • Recommends disciplinary action to be taken against employee.
  • Works with management team to recommend needed staffing changes/modification.
  • Works with Yard supervisor to develop staffing assignments.
  • Assist New Vehicle Transporters and Transfer Crew in training new temporary workers.
  • Observe New Vehicle Transporters, Transfer Crew, and temporary workers as they perform daily tasks and instruct them on appropriate work behavior and/or performance issues as needed.
  • Complete the daily movement worksheet and return it to the Yard Supervisor at the end of each shift.
  • Inspect van to ensure proper maintenance of vehicle and make repair requests to Yard Supervisor.
  • Utilize radio to communicate with management personnel in a professional manner.
  • Insure that all customer vehicles are gassed and contain proper documents.
  • Keeps Yard Supervisor informed of any significant departmental issues.
  • React to change productively.
  • Other duties as assigned (may include administrative or other supervisory).
