About The Position

The Assistant Yard Supervisor will support the Yard Supervisor in overseeing daily operations within the lumber yard. This role involves assisting in the management of yard staff, coordinating daily work schedules, and monitoring yard activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational procedures. The Assistant Yard Supervisor will also address and resolve operational issues or staff concerns promptly. Key areas of focus include inventory management, customer service, safety and compliance, training and development, equipment maintenance, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing yard staff, including laborers, forklift operators, and loaders.
  • Coordinate daily work schedules and assignments to ensure efficient yard operations.
  • Monitor yard activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Address and resolve any operational issues or staff concerns promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records of lumber and other building materials.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and report discrepancies to the Yard Supervisor.
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of materials to optimize space and accessibility.
  • Assist in managing incoming and outgoing shipments, including verifying orders and documentation.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with their inquiries and orders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Address customer complaints or issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and report any hazards or violations.
  • Ensure that all staff are trained on safety protocols and proper equipment usage.
  • Assist in training new yard staff on operational procedures, equipment use, and safety practices.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for yard employees.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to the Yard Supervisor.
  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance and repair of yard equipment, including forklifts and loaders.
  • Ensure that equipment is used properly and safely.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the Yard Supervisor.
  • Identify opportunities to improve yard operations and implement best practices.
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational procedures to enhance productivity.
  • Monitor and evaluate yard performance metrics and suggest improvements.
