About The Position

The Yard Supervisor role at Carter Lumber is a hybrid of administrative work and working in the lumber yard. This is not a desk job by any means – you will play a very active and vital role in the functioning of the lumber yard! Employee management, customer service and yard operations are the key components in this role.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory experience in customer service, preferably in a lumber yard.
  • Ability to direct and train others effectively.
  • Familiarity with building materials.
  • Ability to be an effective team member and leader.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Dispatch experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, communicating, and disciplining employees.
  • Setting the proper example for all lumber yard employees.
  • Assisting customers with the selection and loading of their materials.
  • Ensuring that material is accurately pulled and staged for pickup and delivery.
  • Structuring the shipping of orders, including scheduling.
  • Maintaining the inventory in the yard by conducting cycle counts and keeping the yard organized.
  • Ensuring all yard policies are followed including sales, inventory, and safety.
  • Maintaining all equipment; scheduling vehicles for service and keeping up their maintenance schedules.
