About The Position

The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting with the management of a competitive NCAA Division I Women's Basketball program. This includes supporting conditioning, practices, recruiting, academic monitoring, and operational logistics. The role involves planning and executing a successful program in conjunction with the Head Coach, coaching student-athletes, evaluating performance, monitoring conditioning, and advising student-athletes on eligibility, conduct, and academics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prior coaching experience at the college sports level or as a collegiate athlete.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to act with honesty and sportsmanship at all times.
  • Solid knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential material and maintain strict confidence.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the swimming and diving program.
  • Ability to successfully recruit and retain student athletes.
  • Skilled in exemplary customer service, including dealing effectively with the students, faculty, staff, and general public both in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the needs of all prospective as well as current students.
  • Excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans.
  • Good organizational, oral and recruiting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, decisively and flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to identify problems and to propose feasible solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to stay current with technologies.
  • Ability to lead and guide student-athletes in area of specialty.
  • Ability to travel with the team and monitor the conduct of student athletes.
  • Ability to accept and provide effective supervision, assignments, change and correction.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular team practice sessions.
  • Coaching the student athletes and evaluating their performance in practice and competition.
  • Monitoring the conditioning and training of student athletes.
  • Advising and counseling student athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and academics.
  • Arranging and conducting recruiting functions including off- and on-campus visits, evaluations and contacts of prospective student-athletes.
  • Assisting in on-campus recruiting efforts, arranging official and unofficial visits, and serving as a direct contact for participating constituents on campus.
  • Performing administrative tasks such as academic monitoring, coordinating travel arrangements, ordering of equipment, scouting and film breakdown of opponents.
  • Attending coaches’ preparatory meetings and implementing strategies resulting from these meetings.
  • Building and constructing the non-conference game schedule on a yearly basis; negotiating and putting together game contracts.
  • Assisting in the cultivation and stewardship of program donors.
  • Assisting with any possible issues or opportunities pertaining to compliance, sports information, sports medicine, marketing, housing, food services, security, etc.
  • Full travel responsibilities in-and-out of sport season.
