The Joint CMS Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Program is comprised of student-athletes from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges and offers a comprehensive program of regular physical education, intramural, recreational, club, and varsity sports. CMS varsity teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), as a member of NCAA Division III. The Program is comprised of 21 varsity sports (10 men’s, 11 women’s) and supports a student population of over 3,200 and a student-athlete population of approximately 530. The CMS women’s basketball program has been consistent SCIAC contenders throughout its history, winning 13 league championships and compiling 15 runner-up finishes. The Athenas have also won 20 or more games 16 times, including a stretch of six 20-win seasons in a row from 2013-19. CMS has made nine all-time appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship, advancing to the second round four times. In addition to its on-court success, the program has thrived academically, with over 75 percent of its student-athletes in the last five years earning spots on the SCIAC All-Academic Team for having over a 3.4 GPA. This position is responsible for assisting the Head Women’s Basketball Coach in all facets of the program, including but not limited to: organizing and conducting team training and practices, recruiting, team travel logistics, scholar-athlete development, and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. This position is also responsible for additional administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and will assist the Sport Operations Department, primarily while out of season. Given our commitment to cultivating an inclusive educational environment, we seek candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students representing a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, political opinions, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and religions. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the role of athletics in the liberal arts college curriculum and the integration of the student-athlete and coaching staff into the overall educational experience offered at The Colleges.
