About The Position

The Assistant Press Operator assists Press Operators with make-ready, operation, and maintenance of sheet-fed or web offset printing presses. The role prepares press components and materials, adjusts press mechanisms and feed systems, helps replace rollers and clean press components, and supports color, registration, and press adjustments to meet production quality specifications. This position works a rotating 12-hour day-shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM: Week 1 is Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday; Week 2 is Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 2 years of general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials.
Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine the materials needed for press setup.
Ability to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired product.
Ability to use a micrometer to mount and align printing plates.
Ability to adjust feeder and feed board settings, including suction, blast, front and side guides, and head-stop timing.
Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor equipment repairs under the guidance of senior-level Press Operators.

Responsibilities

Insert packing sheets on plate cylinders, fasten reinforcing bars to offset blankets, and install plates and blankets on press cylinders using hand and power tools.
Adjust press components such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams.
Assist with removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between press rollers.
Wash blankets and clean ink, ink-distributing rollers, and ink fountains using ink solvent and the press cleaning mechanism.
Assist Press Operators with color or register corrections and press adjustments before production runs to meet and maintain quality specifications.
