Assistant Web Press Operator - 12-hr Day Shift Rotating (7am - 7pm)
About The Position
The Assistant Press Operator assists Press Operators with make-ready, operation, and maintenance of sheet-fed or web offset printing presses. The position works a rotating 12-hour day shift from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Week 1 is Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday; Week 2 is Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Duties include preparing press cylinders and components for printing, adjusting machine parts and feed mechanisms, assisting with roller replacement and pressure adjustments, cleaning blankets and ink components, and helping make color, registration, and press adjustments to meet production quality specifications.
Requirements
- Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine the press setup materials needed.
- Ability to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired product.
- Ability to use a micrometer to mount and align printing plates correctly.
- Ability to adjust the feeder and feed board, including suctions and blast, front and side guides, and head-stop timing.
- Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor equipment repairs under the guidance of senior-level Press Operators.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials.
Responsibilities
- Assist Press Operators with press make-ready, operation, and maintenance of sheet-fed or web offset printing presses.
- Insert packing sheets on plate cylinders, fasten reinforcing bars to offset blankets, and install plates and blankets on press cylinders using hand and power tools.
- Adjust press components, including feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams.
- Assist with removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between press rollers.
- Wash blankets and clean ink and ink-distributing rollers and ink fountains using ink solvent and the press cleaning mechanism.
- Assist Press Operators with color or registration corrections and press adjustments before production runs to meet and maintain quality specifications.
