About The Position

UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OF MAINTENANCE THE ASSISTANT VICE - PRESIDENT OF MAINTENANCE COORDINATES AND DIRECTS ALL MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES PERFORMED WITHIN THE AUTHORITY MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT. ENSURES THAT THE BUS FLEET IS SERVICED AND MAINTAINED SUFFICIENTLY TO MINIMIZE DOWN TIME AND UNSCHEDULED DISRUPTIONS. OVERSEES THE COMMUNITY BASED SERVICE PROVIDERS MAINTENANCE PROGRAM. DEVELOPS AND IMPLEMENTS THE AUTHORITY VEHICLE MAINTENANCE TRAINING PROGRAM.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Five years supervisory experience in maintenance management.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of the repair of heavy-duty diesel and gasoline powered vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain a Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proper endorsements within thirty (30) days of appointment.
  • Proficient in the use of Windows-based MS Word and MS Excel applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team leadership and people skills.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, directs, and supervises daily fleet maintenance activities.
  • Oversees the maintenance activities for terminal building and grounds.
  • Oversees the vault house function to ensure proper and secure handling of fare revenues collected through Fixed Route and Connector transit services.
  • Directs, supervises, and coordinates training of first-line supervisors, vault pullers and maintenance employees.
  • Assist with Developing and implementing the Authority vehicle maintenance training program.
  • Works with community partners and vendors to deal with warranty and troubleshooting of vehicle maintenance issues.
  • Counsel’ division employees and issues discipline as appropriate.
  • Represents the Authority at the first and second step of the grievance procedure for UAW represented employees.
  • Assists in the development and compliance of the parts and maintenance budget.
  • Troubleshoots problems to ensure that unnecessary expenditures are not incurred.
  • Trains subordinates in troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ensures that sufficient equipment is available to meet bus service requirements.
  • Performs various administrative functions and maintains up-do-date information on equipment.
  • Communicates regularly with management staff to discuss problems, programs, and recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
