About The Position

The leader in this seat will provide principal support to the Vice President for Capital Planning, Sustainability & Campus Operations. This person works collaboratively with the Vice President and the entire Facilities Services Department to effectively establish and meet the role, mission, and goals of the University. Primary areas of focus for the position include: campus facilities & operations, campus capital planning, design & construction, sustainability, managing the maintenance and operations of campus spaces and overall team leadership and development. The CMU Facilities Services Department consists of campus facility planning, space utilization, design and construction management, custodial services, facility and grounds operations, campus maintenance, waste management including recycling and sustainability, utilities and energy services, central receiving, transportation, and environmental waste.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least 10 years of relevant project management, construction and/or design experience
  • Demonstrated, substantial experience managing complex teams and organizations with an entrepreneurial spirit and strategic thinking
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general written materials, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
  • Ability to write reports and prepare and conduct verbal and visual presentation of materials
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, public groups, and board of directors
  • Strategic and analytical reasoning skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Proven success in building positive relationships with employees, clients, students, staff, and faculty or similar
  • Ability to use technology necessary for this position – word, excel, CADD, and learn relevant software packages
  • Excellent written communication skills and group presentation skills are necessary to support major capital project decision making
  • Must be mobile to get around campus in a timely manner
  • Must be able to drive to other campuses and property owned by CMU
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to use for presenting recommendations
  • Applicant must be able to verify U.S. employment eligibility

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of skilled professionals in the facilities services team including skilled trades, custodial, grounds and operations
  • Direct project management and contributing to overall department leadership
  • Providing thought leadership and direct support to enhance and grow the Campus Thermal Energy Network
  • Project development and execution surrounding campus sustainability and efficiency measures
  • Development of effective policies and measurements to ensure continuous program review and evaluation
  • Budgetary oversight of the various functional units
  • Identify, scope and manage projects impacting their units
  • Supervising employees as assigned
  • Initiate and develop relationships with key campus and community stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
