About The Position

This position is contingent upon student participation, the ability to hold events, and available funding. The Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction at a large public high school. Responsibilities may include supervising teams at varsity and junior varsity levels. Under the direction of the Head Coach, the assistant coach will assist with planning and running practices, and coaching during practices and games. The role involves communicating expectations to parents and players, ensuring adequate coach supervision at all times, attending all practices and games, and arranging for coverage if unable to attend. Coaches are expected to start and end practices on time and be the last to leave the field. Adherence to school board requirements and recommendations, and attendance at all coaches’ meetings are also required. The position includes assisting with player selection and supervision of the team during all activities.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and advanced strategies of applicable sport.
  • Knowledge of VHSL rules.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop players in a positive way.
  • Desire to teach and improve skill development.
  • Must pass criminal record check.
  • Previous experience as a player and/or coaching at the high school level.
  • A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid teaching license in a high school curriculum area.
