About The Position

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Assistant Track and Field coach. This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Head Track and Field Coach. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. The full time Track and Field assistant coach provides support and leadership in all aspects of developing highly successful programs primarily focused on instruction and mentorship for student athletes. The Track and Field assistant is expected to be fully integrated into the life of the program, the athletics department and university mission. The position is an avenue to empower and build lives through the avenue of college athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan, organize, and implement daily practice plans throughout the championship season.
  • Lead individual or specialty practice sessions as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Prepare and maintain practice equipment for individual and team training activities.
  • Provide individualized technical instruction and constructive feedback to student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Deliver group instruction and performance evaluations to improve team development.
  • Assess daily team performance and identify areas for improvement and future training priorities.
  • Coordinate strength and conditioning activities with the Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Assist in the management of the program's social media presence by promoting team accomplishments, events, and culture.
  • Prepare scouting reports, opponent analyses, and performance standards to support competition preparation.
  • Coordinate competition logistics, including travel arrangements, lodging, meals, itineraries, and meet preparation as assigned.
  • Assist with athlete warm-ups and oversee pre-competition preparation.
  • Provide coaching, technical instruction, and performance feedback throughout competitions.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging competitive environment through continuous support and motivation of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate and monitor off-season strength and conditioning programs in collaboration with the Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Conduct equipment setup, maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Oversee the distribution, collection, and inventory of team equipment and apparel.
  • Organize and conduct individual student-athlete meetings.
  • Assist in developing the annual competition schedule and coordinating travel arrangements.
  • Complete and maintain all required departmental paperwork, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Obtain and maintain university driver authorization as required.
  • Plan and coordinate team special events, community service initiatives, and program engagement activities.
  • Organize recruiting visit schedules, including overnight visits for prospective student-athletes.
  • Prepare and distribute communications to student-athletes' families and program alumni.
  • Manage uniform distribution, collection, replacement, and inventory.
  • Coordinate the selection, ordering, and organization of team apparel.
  • Plan and execute official and unofficial campus visit days for prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop proficiency in the institution's recruiting database and applicable recruiting software.
  • Maintain accurate records of prospective, interested, accepted, and enrolled student-athletes.
  • Track campus visits and recruiting interactions with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of recruiting correspondence with prospects, families, coaches, and other constituents.
  • Respond promptly to recruiting inquiries from prospective student-athletes, parents, and coaches.
  • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes through recruiting databases, competition results, showcases, and game observations.
  • Monitor recruit development and maintain updated recruiting evaluations.
  • Communicate regularly with prospective student-athletes regarding university events, admissions opportunities, and recruiting activities.
  • Participate in university Open House and admissions recruitment events.
  • Conduct on-campus recruiting meetings with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Provide campus tours as assigned.
  • Attend showcases, competitions, camps, and prospective student-athlete events throughout the year.
  • Assist the Head Coach in preparing and managing the annual operating budget in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure expenditures remain within approved budget allocations.
  • Assist with the timely selection, purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and program supplies while adhering to budgetary requirements.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with alumni, donors, prospective donors, families, and community partners through regular communication and engagement opportunities.
  • Promote and enhance the visibility and reputation of the Lynchburg Track & Field program within the university, local community, and collegiate track and field community.
  • Support fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to NCAA, conference, university, and departmental rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the University's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and Title IX compliance in all aspects of the athletics program.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete all mandatory institutional and departmental training.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics or the Head Coach.
  • Represent the University and the Department of Athletics in a professional manner consistent with the mission and values of the institution.
