POSITION DESCRIPTION The Assistant to the Dean of Nursing provides direct academic and administrative support to the Dean, with a primary focus on curriculum development, academic program coordination, and accreditation compliance. This position serves as a key liaison between the Dean, program directors, faculty, and campus stakeholders. The Assistant to the Dean supports the continuous improvement of nursing program curricula, facilitates the academic change process, and assists in maintaining consistent academic standards across all campuses offering Associate Degree Registered Nursing (ADN) and Practical Nursing (PN) programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
  • Current, unencipled Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable jurisdiction required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing education experience, including direct involvement in curriculum development or instructional design
  • Strong knowledge of nursing curriculum frameworks, instructional design principles, and program assessment practices.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear reports and correspondence.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and academic database tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and clinical partners across multiple campuses.
  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Commitment to student success, academic quality, and continuous program improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Experience in an academic administrative or program coordination role preferred.
  • Familiarity with nursing accreditation standards and state board of nursing requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Dean in developing, reviewing, and revising curriculum for ADN and PN programs to ensure alignment with accreditation standards, industry needs, and student outcome goals.
  • Coordinates the Academic Change process, including tracking submissions, routing for approvals, and maintaining accurate records of all curriculum changes.
  • Supports the design and development of new courses and program enhancements, including objectives, learning outcomes, and instructional materials.
  • Assists in managing curriculum pilot projects, including tracking progress, gathering faculty feedback, and preparing summary reports for the Dean.
  • Conducts research on emerging trends in nursing education, evidence-based practices, and regulatory changes that may impact program curriculum.
  • Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and curriculum chairs to ensure course content is current, clinically relevant, and pedagogically sound.
  • Assists in recommending, developing and evaluating instructional technologies, simulation resources, and other tools that support curriculum delivery.
  • Assists the Dean in preparing for and maintaining compliance with accreditation bodies and applicable state nursing boards.
  • Compiles, organizes, and maintains documentation required for accreditation reviews, self-study reports, and program approvals.
  • Monitors regulatory and licensure updates that affect program standards and communicates changes to the Dean and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining Academic Annual Plans and program assessment documentation.
  • Supports the Dean in coordinating program-level assessment activities aligned with the institutional effectiveness process.
  • Collects and organizes student outcome data, NCLEX pass rates, retention metrics, and other key performance indicators.
  • Assists in preparing program effectiveness reports and presentations for academic leadership and accreditation purposes.
  • Tracks the impact of curricular and instructional changes on student outcomes and contributes to data-driven improvement initiatives.
  • Supports the Dean in faculty recruitment efforts, including reviewing credentials, coordinating onboarding documentation, and facilitating orientation.
  • Assists in coordinating faculty professional development activities, including certification tracking and training logistics.
  • Serves as a point of contact for faculty and program directors seeking guidance on curriculum processes and academic policies.
  • Manages the Dean's calendar, correspondence, meeting coordination, and project tracking as needed.
  • Prepares agendas, meeting notes, and follow-up action items for curriculum committee meetings and academic planning sessions.
  • Facilitates timely communication of curriculum changes, policy updates, and academic initiatives to faculty and program directors.
  • Assists in maintaining shared documentation platforms and best practices resources for faculty use.
  • Supports the Dean in fostering collaborative relationships with clinical partners, campus administrators, and external accreditors.
  • Contributes to efforts that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the nursing programs and the broader academic community.
