About The Position

The Assistant to the chair for sociology will provide direct support to the department chair by managing the chairs calendar, providing project support, and logistical support for faculty personnel processes. The Assistant will also coordinate travel processes serve as the building proctor, initial point of contact for general department issues, and coordinate department events.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position OR A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct administrative, operational, and project support to the department chair.
  • Manage the chair’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, coordinating availability, preparing and distributing calendar invitations, reserving meeting spaces, and supporting meeting logistics.
  • Support chair-led department projects, strategic initiatives, organizational changes, communications, and special assignments.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for faculty personnel processes, including tenure and promotion, reappointment, comprehensive review, annual evaluation, and merit processes.
  • Initiate and coordinate travel processes for faculty, staff, and graduate students, including traveler profiles, travel authorizations, and other required pre-travel documentation.
  • Serve as the department’s primary Building Proctor and liaison among building occupants, Facilities Management, Environmental Health Services, and other relevant university offices.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for general department inquiries received by telephone, email, or in person.
  • Coordinate and support department events, lectures, colloquia, meetings, receptions, commencement activities, community gatherings, celebrations, and other department functions.
