About The Position
The Learning Experience - Gurnee is hiring an enthusiastic and dependable Assistant Teacher to support its Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms. The Assistant Teacher works alongside experienced educators to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, explore, and grow. Applicants may have prior childcare experience or be looking to begin a career in early childhood education. The position pays $18.00 per hour and is full-time, Monday through Friday, at The Learning Experience in Gurnee, Illinois. The company offers paid training and professional development, a supportive leadership team, and opportunities to grow into Teacher and Lead Teacher positions. The franchise is independently owned and operated, and hiring decisions are made by the franchisee.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Previous professional childcare, daycare, preschool, or other experience working with children is preferred.
- Early Childhood Education coursework or a CDA is a plus, but not required.
- Patient, dependable, energetic, and team-oriented.
- Willingness to learn and support children across different age groups.
- Must meet applicable Illinois DCFS requirements for the assigned position.
Nice To Haves
- Previous professional childcare, daycare, preschool, or other experience working with children.
- Early Childhood Education coursework or a CDA.
Responsibilities
- Support Lead Teachers with daily classroom activities and routines.
- Assist with The Learning Experience's L.E.A.P. Curriculum.
- Engage children through stories, music, art, sensory play, and hands-on learning.
- Encourage language development, independence, and positive social interactions.
- Support meals, diapering, toileting, rest time, and classroom transitions as appropriate.
- Maintain active supervision and appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Keep classrooms clean, organized, and welcoming.
- Follow Illinois DCFS childcare licensing, health, and safety requirements.
