About The Position

Great Hearts Academies is seeking a life-long learner passionate about shaping students’ hearts and minds. Great Hearts is a network of 49 public, open-enrollment, tuition-free classical schools serving more than 30,000 K–12 students in Arizona, Louisiana, and Texas. Its educational mission is to help students become good, intellectually and morally. As a K–5 Assistant Teacher, you support the lead teacher in implementing a rich Core Knowledge curriculum and contribute to instruction, student learning, and daily classroom activities. A bachelor’s degree is not required. The posting also describes an Apprentice Teacher pathway: an apprentice functions as a second teacher in the classroom without taking on all planning, grading/evaluation, and parent communications, and learns through mentorship with a Master Teacher. Many apprentices progress to lead-teacher roles, assuming they have a bachelor’s degree. The role supports a respectful, intellectually vibrant school community and an orderly, professional learning environment. It includes participation in faculty meetings, school events, conferences, and assigned duties, as well as ongoing professional growth and development of knowledge of the classical tradition. Local travel may be needed for training and professional development. Employment is contingent on successful completion of the required criminal-history background check and fingerprint clearance.

Requirements

  • U.S. work authorization is required; OPT/CPT candidates are accepted.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements is a condition of employment.
  • Some locations, such as Title I schools, may require assistant teachers to have an associate degree, 60 hours of college credit, or pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work.
