Assistant Teacher - Daycare & Preschool
About The Position
The Learning Experience - Gurnee is hiring an enthusiastic and dependable Assistant Teacher to support Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms. The role works alongside experienced educators to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, explore, and grow. Applicants may have childcare experience or be starting a career in early childhood education. The Assistant Teacher supports classroom activities and routines, the L.E.A.P. Curriculum, children's development and care, and compliance with Illinois DCFS childcare licensing, health, and safety requirements. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, and pays $18.00 per hour.
Requirements
- Patient, dependable, energetic, and team-oriented.
- Willingness to learn and support children across different age groups.
- Must meet applicable Illinois DCFS requirements for the assigned position.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous professional childcare, daycare, preschool, or experience working with children preferred.
- Early Childhood Education coursework or CDA is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Support Lead Teachers with daily classroom activities and routines.
- Assist with The Learning Experience's L.E.A.P. Curriculum.
- Engage children through stories, music, art, sensory play, and hands-on learning.
- Encourage language development, independence, and positive social interactions.
- Support meals, diapering, toileting, rest time, and classroom transitions as appropriate.
- Maintain active supervision and appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Keep classrooms clean, organized, and welcoming.
- Follow Illinois DCFS childcare licensing, health, and safety requirements.
