About The Position

Arts in Action Community Charter School is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the Transitional Kindergarten Program. Assistant Teachers support the educational program and assist their assigned teachers and students by working with individual students or small groups, serving as substitute teachers, and performing other support tasks within and outside the classroom. The school's elementary program focuses on a rigorous academic foundation, whole child development through arts, socio-emotional learning, and social justice initiatives.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree is required, committing to obtain a 30-day substitute credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing immediately upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high degree of ethics and professionalism.
• Execute whole group and small group instructional activities with students.
• Assist in the social development of students.
• Implement behavior management strategies designed by teachers and administration.
• Administer redirection and consequences per the school’s positive behavior support plan.
• Substitute teach on an as-needed basis.
• Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
• Deliver high-quality intervention lessons to targeted students.
• Assist in the administration of school-wide benchmarks and state assessments.
• Supervise and guide students to adhere to the school’s safety guidelines and proactively minimize accidents.
• Build relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Follow the direction and guidance of teachers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Director.
• Supervise meal (breakfast, lunch, and potentially supper) distribution and provide supervision during playground and/or meal times.
• Work with groups of students during the after-school program.
• Assist with student toileting needs and other developmental physical health needs.
