About The Position

The Assistant Teacher works in the Day Care/Early Learn program at a HELP USA family shelter, supporting children impacted by homelessness so they can continue to learn and develop. The role assists with educational curriculum, lesson planning, classroom activities, classroom safety and cleanliness, and daily engagement with children and their families. The program operates in accordance with ECERS, DOH Article 47, Head Start Performance Regulations, and the organization's Discipline Policy and Procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft applications.

Nice To Haves

• NYS Teaching Assistant Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing and facilitating appropriate, approved educational curriculum to foster the development and growth of children.
• Assist with developing and implementing lesson plans and appropriate daily program activity schedules.
• Keep equipment accessible and in good, clean, sanitized condition; remove and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
• Meet and greet children and their families daily, and encourage families to volunteer and participate in their children’s program.
• Help ensure classroom learning centers comply with ECERS, DOH Article 47, and Head Start Performance Regulations.
• Help develop appropriate limits for children in accordance with the Discipline Policy and Procedures.
