About The Position

The Assistant Teacher assists with student instruction and behavioral supports at Minnick Schools, a system of private day schools for students with special needs. The role supports classroom and community-based instruction and is intended for individuals motivated to make a positive difference in young people’s lives. Driving may be required, and a satisfactory driving record is critical. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience working with students receiving special education services, mental health services, and/or other direct services.
• Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license and proof of insurance if assigned as a driver.
• Satisfactory driving record, including compliance with the listed restrictions on specified driving violations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with classroom management, academic instruction, and behavioral support.
• Implement behavior intervention plans and strategies as directed.
• After provided training, obtain Safety Care certification and use Safety Care strategies to respond to and de-escalate negative behaviors.
• Maintain student records and assigned documentation in a timely manner.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
• Maintain professional boundaries in interactions with students and staff.
• Assist the classroom teacher with student supervision and provide instruction and supervision when the teacher is not present.
• Attend staff, parent, and IEP meetings as requested.
• Attend work regularly and arrive on time.
• Communicate professionally and treat students, parents, coworkers, and other professionals with dignity and respect.
