About The Position

YAI is hiring Assistant Supervisors for Suffolk County to help lead teams supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living, loving, working, and learning in their communities. Assistant Supervisors are lead members of the direct care team and perform day-to-day functions similar to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), alongside administrative responsibilities such as training, scheduling, and systems management. In some cases, they directly supervise other DSPs. Depending on the support needs, work may take place in a person’s home, their family’s home, a YAI residence, a day habilitation center, or the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to lead by example and act as a role model within teams.
• Interpersonal problem-solving skills.
• Ability to accept and apply feedback.
• Flexibility in availability.

Nice To Haves

• Some college preferred.
• Prior DSP experience strongly preferred, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct-care support similar to that provided by Direct Support Professionals.
• Help lead teams in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Handle administrative responsibilities, including training, scheduling, and systems management.
• Directly supervise other DSPs in some cases.
