About The Position

Tellepsen is one of the largest general contractors in the Greater Houston Area, with more than 117 years of success in building the places where we live, work, play, learn, worship, and heal. As we expand upon that legacy and continue to grow, Tellepsen is looking for experienced Assistant Superintendents to join our team. Job Purpose An Assistant Superintendent supports the Senior Superintendent to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed in the field regarding safety, scheduling, budget, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

3-4 years’ industry-related experience preferred.
OSHA 30 Certification
Proficient in the use of technology including project management software, Procore, Primavera scheduling software
Applicable knowledge (i.e., building envelope, foundations, roofing systems, etc.) a plus
Demonstrate a mastery of safety and quality standards to help maintain Tellepsen’s exemplary safety record
Awareness of plans, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings
General understanding of project budget
Problem-solving, multitasking, and time management skills
Leadership - Demonstrated leadership ability. Able to motivate, communicate, and collaborate well with others using a highly organized and disciplined framework. Self-assured with an in-check ego, emotional intelligence and maturity, the ability to be self-critical and admit mistakes without being defensive. A mature individual who places greater value on reaching the "right" decision rather than on “being” right.
Communications - Strong verbal and written communication skills. Timely, transparent, direct, and specific. Able to consult with large groups and interact with customers, employees, and others on a one-on-one basis. Natural inclination towards client interaction.
Persuasive and Tenacious - Must be bright, have a very strong work ethic, persistent and committed. Not fazed by obstacles or initial negative responses. Results-oriented, driven to succeed, reputation for getting things accomplished.
Passion – Love for construction, specifically project management.
Humility - Humility is expected within the Tellepsen Culture. It must be measured, and the candidate must show confidence through actions and results. There are no "big shots" at Tellepsen. Check your ego at the door. No body works “for” anybody at Tellepsen; we all work “with” each other.

Responsibilities

Supervise craft workers/subcontractors assigned to area of responsibility, provide liaison between field engineering and crafts to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
Monitor work performance and productivity of crafts/subcontractors to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained.
Advise ranking superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interference, scheduling difficulties, etc.; Assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required.
Assist with daily paperwork as assigned by the ranking Superintendent.
Assist with timely and accurate project close out procedures (As-Builts, Punchlist, Completion list, etc.).
Understand subcontract agreement documents and their requirements.
Sit in on and actively participate in meetings with inspectors under quality control sector.
Ensure all permitting and inspections and in alignment with City of Houston requirements.
Understand and participate in observation process and necessary reports.
Completion of annual First Aid/CPR and Crisis Management Training
