About The Position

The Assistant Softball Coach assists teaching, coaching, training, performance, and recruitment of student-athletes for the varsity softball team. The primary purpose is to teach and coach student-athletes while assisting the head coach in the conduct of the program. This role performs components of the varsity softball sports program including coaching, recruiting, office duties, and video oversight. The Assistant Coach identifies and recruits academically qualified student-athletes and reinforces their goal to graduate. They actively support the endeavors and advancement of the Missouri Southern Athletics Department and operate within the guidelines of Missouri Southern State University, MIAA, and NCAA rules and regulations. The position may involve communicating with the media when the head coach is unavailable and performing athletic administration and support activities, including regular attendance at department meetings. Effective collaboration with medical staff, including athletic trainers, team physicians, and strength and conditioning coaches, is crucial to ensure the physical and mental health and well-being of student-athletes. The role also assists with game day operations, including field preparation, and develops and maintains quality relationships within the community both on and off-campus. Promoting the academic and athletic well-being of student-athletes and conducting summer camps and clinics, if warranted, are also key functions. The Assistant Coach effectively teaches softball fundamentals with an emphasis on pitching and strategies to student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful coaching experience with Division I or II preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university�s insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to teach pitching skills to collegiate athletes, monitor their success and continued improvement.
  • Ability to utilize video and technical equipment as a teaching tool while working with student-athletes.
  • Actively seek out and install strategies to improve academic success programs of the Missouri Southern Athletic Department.
  • Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and other technical computer applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful coaching experience with Division I or II preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, MIAA, and Division II athletics preferred.
  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire, and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.
