About The Position

The Assistant Softball Coach (Part-Time) is responsible for directing and organizing all aspects of their job responsibilities in compliance with the policies, procedures, and regulations of Alvernia University, the NCAA, and the MAC. This role supports the University's intercollegiate athletics program by establishing policies and procedures that aim to develop quality, competitive athletics teams while also supporting the individual educational goals of student-athletes. Key duties include assisting in the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, representing or carrying out the duties of the head coach in their absence, and maintaining an active understanding of all University, NCAA, and MAC rules and regulations, reporting any potential violations immediately to the Director of Athletics. The position also requires passing the NCAA Division III Recruiting Test and promoting Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University. Additional responsibilities include attending all mandatory meetings and training sessions, and contributing to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior coaching and/or playing experience (preferably at the collegiate level).
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Commitment to the mission, core values, and goals of Alvernia University.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and organizes all aspects and job responsibilities of an assistant coach as indicated in the Alvernia University Coaches Manual.
  • Assists the University's intercollegiate athletics program and establishes policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support of the individual educational goals of student-athletes.
  • Assists in the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Represents and/or carries out the duties of the head coach in his/her absence.
  • Maintains an active understanding of all University, NCAA and MAC rules and regulations and report any possible violation immediately to the Director of Athletics.
  • Pass the NCAA Division III Recruiting Test.
  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, training sessions, etc.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.
