About The Position

Norwich Public Schools is seeking Assistant Soccer Coaches for Boys & Girls teams at Kelly Middle School and Teachers’ Memorial Middle School. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach, Athletic Facilitator (AF), Principal, and Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives. This role is crucial in helping students improve their soccer skills while instilling values of sportsmanship and discipline.

Requirements

• CT Coaching Certification required
• Knowledge/Experience in related sport is preferred
• Coaching experience preferred
• Familiarity with emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid certification (often required).
• Understanding of Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) or school district policies on injuries and concussions.
• Awareness of school district or school policies, codes of conduct, and academic eligibility requirements.
• Clear communication with players, parents, school administrators, and assistant coaches.
• Exhibit integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to student development both on and off the field.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge/Experience in related sport is preferred
• Coaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Supports the head coach in developing individual and team skills through practice sessions and drills appropriate for middle school athletes.
• Assists with organizing and supervising practices, games, and team-related activities in collaboration with the head coach.
• Helps with equipment setup, distribution, and collection; reports equipment needs or issues to the head coach or Athletic Facilitator (AF).
• Monitors student athlete attendance, behavior, and safety during all team activities, and promptly communicates concerns to the head coach or AF.
• Follows all district and school policies, including the Norwich Public Schools Athletics Handbook and CIAC guidelines, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
