About The Position

The Assistant Youth Development Director is responsible for the supervision of all children. They assist the Director in planning, leadership and record keeping. They share responsibility for making sure the site meets all YMCA, state and county licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of six college credit hours in early childhood or education or Florida Child Care Professional Certificate required.
  • Previous child care and supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Must have or be enrolled in state mandated trainings within 90 days of employment. Trainings must be complete within 12 months of employment.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid required within first 90 days of employment.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to stand, remain outdoors and maintain continual physical endurance for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, watch, listen, and facilitate group activities.
  • Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions.
  • Must be able to supervise, coach and manage staff.
  • Must be able to supervise and instruct large groups of children.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in a child-related field is preferred.
  • Florida Director Credential preferred.
  • Ability to meet YMCA driving criteria preferred.
  • Lifeguard and Listen First certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of sports and children's programming preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the person in charge in the absence of a Director.
  • May serve in the capacity of a Youth Development Specialist to meet ratios.
  • Maintain accurate attendance at all times including bathroom breaks and every transition. Conduct face to name attendance verification.
  • Communicate and document children's absences, injuries and incidents according to policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Director in the day to day operation of the program.
  • Nurture children and provide academic growth opportunities that support the school curriculum.
  • Support wellness initiatives by providing purposeful programs that include adhering to the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA).
  • Engage children by facilitating program activities that are designed to enrich their lives.
  • Use positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior. Document and communicate inappropriate behavior following our disciplinary procedures.
  • Cultivate relationships by establishing a positive rapport with children, parents, volunteers, staff and school personnel.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
  • Promote socially responsible behavior by recruiting volunteers and assist in coordinating community service projects.
  • Deliver our service pledge by role modeling SMART behavior.
