About The Position

The Assistant Security Manager will be responsible for the daily supervision of Security Personnel, overseeing scheduling, assignments, incident reporting, and patrols. This role also involves acting as Co-chair for the Health & Safety Committee, attending meetings with other managers to determine operational needs, and planning/coordinating security operations for specific events. The position requires developing and maintaining communications with mall tenants and local law enforcement agencies regarding crime prevention, creating reports for management on security status, and monitoring monthly statistics including criminal activity and liability. The Assistant Security Manager will oversee and assist in monitoring sensitive areas and controlled access points, respond immediately to security and life safety requests, and coordinate activities during emergencies according to established policies. Ensuring staff compliance with all documentation, policies, and instructions is crucial. Daily supervisory inspections, overseeing department computer and technical equipment, and supervising the use of memo books, uniforms, and equipment are also key responsibilities. Monitoring calls to dispatch, assisting the Security Manager with training and development, and ensuring all security reports meet site standards are part of the role. Providing feedback to improve asset protection, ensuring proper procedures for liability claims and occurrence reports, and maintaining communication with retail tenants, law enforcement, fire prevention, and emergency medical services personnel are also required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Security role within a shopping Centre environment
  • Proven management and supervision skills
  • Fully competent in all aspects of health & safety legislation
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Be self-motivated, diplomatic, innovative and able to accept challenges
  • Superior communication skills
  • Experience using relevant technology and equipment (e.g. CCTV) and Access Control
  • Experience in reporting and emergency response planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia Drivers License
  • Certified in CPR, First Aid, AED & Oxygen Administration
  • Must be able to provide Clear Criminal Background Certificate
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize workload

Responsibilities

  • Daily supervision of Security Personnel, oversee scheduling requirements, security assignments, incident reporting and patrols
  • Act as Co-chair for Health & Safety Committee
  • Attend meetings with other managers to determine operational needs, including Marketing, Operations and Development discipline
  • Plan and coordinate security operations for specific events
  • Assist to develop and maintain communications with mall tenants and local law enforcement agencies regarding crime prevention
  • Create reports for management on security status
  • Monitor and report monthly stats including criminal activity and liability
  • Oversee and assist in monitoring all sensitive areas and controlled access points
  • Immediately respond and assist with security & life safety related requests made by customers, tenants and employees
  • Respond immediately to emergencies and co-ordinate activities in accordance with established and approved lawful policies and procedures
  • Ensure staff compliance with all log books, posted memos, brief books, written or verbal instructions and policies are read, initialed and understood by all staff
  • Complete daily supervisory inspections as detailed by the Security Manager
  • Oversee staff operation and compliance of department computer and technical equipment
  • Supervise the use of memo books, security uniforms and equipment
  • Monitor calls to dispatch and assist staff accordingly
  • Assist the Security Manager with training and development of Security Personnel
  • Ensure all Security reports are completed to site standards and filed appropriately
  • Provide feedback to improve the process in the protection of assets
  • Ensure that proper procedures are observed relative to reporting of liability claims and completion of occurrence reports
  • Maintain communications with retail tenants, local law enforcement agencies, local fire prevention personnel and local emergency medical services personnel
