About The Position

The Assistant Sales Manager in the National Account Division is responsible for directly supervising all sales staff within their division/department for assigned accounts. This role aggressively pursues sales goals and objectives, supporting individual and team activities to achieve organizational goals. The Assistant Sales Manager is tasked with developing new business and ensuring the achievement of short and long-range sales objectives. This position requires coordinating sales activities and promotions with other employees, branch administrators, customers, and clients, addressing their needs, concerns, and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Assist management in establishing future growth potential for new business.
  • Evaluate territory performance against established objectives/guidelines (sales forecast, budget, number of new accounts, gross margin, team goals, product sales plan, etc.) and take appropriate action to improve performance.
  • Manage and develop key accounts.
  • Review and analyze product expiration to create and execute sales/product promotions so the sales team can take appropriate actions to sell off near expired items.
  • Prepare periodic reports and regularly update databases showing sales volume, potential sales, and status of active pursuits.
  • Recommend future growth potential to Sales HQ, such as acquisitions and new market strategies.
  • Develop a territory coverage plan that defines the type of support and frequency of customer contact required to meet territory goals.
  • Independently recognize and seek out sales opportunities, methods of obtaining sales, and provide service to customers within assigned areas.
  • Provide support in pricing studies and assist in responding to productivity requests and other special customer requirements.
  • Monitor and adjust the purchasing of products needed for the branch to control inventory.
  • Participate in planning training, seminars, and outside training to enhance product knowledge.
  • Monitor the schedule of sales staff to ensure they are meeting with customers and potential customers.
  • Conduct evaluations on all sales staff within their team.
  • Communicate new product and service opportunities, information, or feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.
  • Cooperate with the accounting department to ensure the collection of accounts receivable due.
  • Cooperate with assigned inside customer service personnel, sales assistants, and office associates to achieve territory sales goals.
  • Perform other managerial duties as assigned.
