About The Position

This position supports the site implementation of the Safety Management System Plan, comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and tools to enhance compliance with corporate direction in efforts to reduce accidents/injuries in the workplace. The role involves monitoring compliance with SMS policies and procedures, conducting ongoing safety auditing, and ensuring all relevant statutory and regulatory safety policies are applied and adhered to. The Assistant Safety Manager Maintenance will also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk control strategies, identify and assess new hazards, and oversee the monitoring and recording of safety performance. Additionally, the role contributes to the safety culture through exemplary safety-oriented behaviors, ensuring a just culture within the organization, planning and delivering monthly safety meetings, and proactively leading safety improvement campaigns.

Requirements

  • Must be a certified Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) TSSP.
  • Minimum 3 years progressive transit experience.
  • Knowledgeable on Department of Transportation (DOT), ADOT
  • Experience developing and implementing Safety Program Plans, SMS, policies, procedures and corrective action.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to proactively identify risk trends and remedy through corrective action, safety awareness, etc.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with assigned department to ensure contractually required safety numbers are achieved.
  • Possess the temperament necessary for maintaining amiable relations with various levels of company personnel.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations to others.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize.
  • Must have a valid AZ driver license.

  • Oversee ongoing monitoring and recording of safety performance.
  • Contribute to the safety culture through displaying exemplary safety-oriented behaviors.
  • Ensure a just culture within the organization where all employees are treated fairly and justly and understand their contribution to the organization’s safety philosophy.
  • Plan, schedule and deliver monthly safety meetings.
  • Proactively leads safety improvement campaigns systematically in the field.
