Our Construction Services Team in Seattle has an opportunity for talented and versatile construction management personnel to join our team as an Assistant Resident Engineer/ Construction Inspector. About being our Assistant Resident Engineer/Construction Inspector Psomas' Construction Services Team supports a diverse portfolio of municipal projects ranging from small utility and sidewalk improvements to large multi-year transportation infrastructure projects. Our North End teams typically provide coverage for projects in the Puget Sound Area ranging from Federal Way to Lynwood. We are seeking candidates that have a strong technical background, who enjoy being in the field, and that are flexible to serve in a dual capacity as needed. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to high-impact projects while growing with a collaborative and expanding team. Depending on upcoming project needs and your experience, you will have the opportunity to provide both project level oversight and hands-on field inspection. Assignments and responsibilities will be tailored to your skill set and experience. Work hours are typically 7am - 3:30pm Monday-Friday, however occasional overtime, night work, or weekend work may be required depending on the Contractor's work schedule.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience providing resident engineering, inspection or related public works construction experience (level and responsibilities commensurate with experience)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience interpreting construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to perform field measurements, quantity calculations, and maintain accurate documentation
  • Working knowledge of WSDOT Standard Specifications and Standard Plans
  • Valid Driver License with a clean driving record (daily inspection includes travel to various job sites)
  • Ability and willingness to work on an active construction site, including walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, crawling, stooping, and entering confined spaces, being outdoors in inclement weather, wearing proper safety equipment, and practicing industry safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • 7+ years of roadway or municipal infrastructure construction experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain
  • APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
  • Experience leading construction meetings and coordinating with agencies, utilities, and stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary liaison between the Contractor, Agency/Client, utilities, and stakeholders
  • Administer construction contracts, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and schedule review
  • Evaluate cost and schedule impacts and support resolution of field issues
  • Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and document construction meetings and field discussions
  • Collaborate with project team, contractors, and stakeholders to address technical issues, resolve conflicts and maintain progress
  • Monitor project milestones and proactively identify risks to schedule or budget
  • Perform daily site observations and documentation of construction activities for civil infrastructure projects, including roadways, water mains, stormwater systems, and sewer improvements
  • Verify contractor compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and QA requirements for compliance with the project requirements
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, measurements, calculations, and quantity computations, and assist in preparing Field Note Records for progress payment processing
