Requirements

  • Entry-level trainee position with no experience necessary.
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities with close attention to details.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic research support duties under general or direct supervision.
  • Collect, clean, dry, sterilize, and label used glassware and pipettes.
  • Hand wash specialty items not suitable for washing machines.
  • Return clean glassware to labs.
  • Maintain a neat work area.
  • Sweep and wash washroom shelves, furniture, and appliances.
  • Order and check delivery of washroom supplies.
  • Participate in the workflow of small instrument fleet equipment.
  • Provide equipment usage training to researchers.
  • Ensure associated computers are upgraded and in good working order.
  • Perform and maintain records of regularly scheduled calibrations.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance procedures and perform basic repairs.
  • Prepare customized reagent solutions and fly food media upon request.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of supplies and chemicals.
  • Keep records of production, sales, inventory, and turnover of reagents and media.
  • Become proficient in the use of iLab for reagent preparation.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior level lab staff.
  • Participate in and perform other related duties as required.
  • Cooperate, collaborate, and communicate with all NYULH employees.
  • Communicate directly with PIs and scientists, and coordinate delivery of results to outside collaborators.
  • Communicate carefully with others to respond appropriately, answer questions, and obtain requested information.
  • Communicate ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all research information.
  • Recognize problems and determine or recommend appropriate solutions using policy/procedure.
  • Troubleshoot issues.
  • Seek guidance when necessary and utilize reference sources for accuracy.
  • Advise appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up.
