About The Position

CMM Custom Homes is seeking an Assistant Project Manager / Builder's Associate to join their team. This role is for someone eager to learn custom home building, pay attention to details, help projects progress, and contribute to a team focused on continuous improvement. The position involves working collaboratively with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, Designers, Preconstruction teams, trades, vendors, and clients. The construction environment can be unpredictable, requiring the right individual to handle pressure, maintain organization, communicate effectively, and drive projects forward. CMM values ownership, communication, follow-through, clean handoffs, and client experience. This role is hands-on, focusing on ensuring tasks are completed and critical details are not overlooked.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks.
  • Ability to work with homeowners, trades, vendors, designers, project managers, and field staff.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to jobsites, vendors, towns, and the CMM office.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required with the right experience, attitude, and ability to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in residential construction, custom homes, project coordination, construction administration, estimating, architecture, design-build, or related field.
  • CAD experience.
  • Interest in custom home construction, design, architecture, and the details of home building.
  • Familiarity with drawings, specs, schedules, selections, bids, purchase orders, and project documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers with daily coordination, follow-up, task management, agendas, meeting notes, action items, unanswered questions, and outstanding decisions.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, designers, and internal CMM team members to ensure timely responses.
  • Organize and log notes, decisions, interactions, delivery dates, vendor updates, and project information for easy access and action.
  • Maintain Buildertrend organization with notes, logs, schedules, selections, approvals, purchase orders, photos, commitments, and required documentation.
  • Ensure project information is clear for clients, field team, office team, and accounting.
  • Support a clean handoff from preconstruction to construction by reviewing plans, specs, selections, allowances, and identifying potential issues.
  • Organize necessary information for Project Managers and Site Superintendents to start jobs successfully.
  • Assist with bid follow-up, proposal tracking, vendor coordination, procurement, purchase orders, approvals, delivery dates, and lead times.
  • Help level trade pricing and track budgets and allowances with the Project Manager and accounting team.
  • Proactively manage permitting tasks, coordinate submittals, paperwork, and follow-up with towns and other professionals.
  • Track permit-related open items and communicate needs to the team.
  • Coordinate with Site Superintendents and field team members, supporting jobsite visits, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Identify schedule blockers, missing materials, unanswered questions, and trade coordination issues.
  • Contribute to a strong client experience through clear communication, responsiveness, organization, and follow-through.
  • Assist project management, preconstruction, design, finance, and field teams as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
