About The Position
The Assistant Project Estimator supports FCL Builders’ Pre-Construction team by developing accurate project costs, reviewing construction plans, coordinating with subcontractors, and preparing competitive bids. The role contributes throughout the Pre-Construction process, working with Estimators, project teams, architects, consultants, and Business Development. It offers mentorship and career-development opportunities, with a stated path toward roles such as Estimator and Project Manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, or a strong interest in developing this skill.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, and follow-through.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- A proactive mindset and eagerness to learn from experienced estimating and operations professionals.
Nice To Haves
- Internship or entry-level experience in construction, estimating, engineering, or project management.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam or on-screen takeoff software.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing construction estimates from conceptual designs through detailed plans and specifications.
- Perform quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam or other on-screen takeoff software.
- Solicit, organize, and compare subcontractor and vendor proposals.
- Help prepare bid summaries, scope sheets, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation.
- Review drawings and specifications to identify scope requirements, discrepancies, and potential risks.
- Support preparation of project RFIs and value engineering ideas.
- Maintain accurate historical cost data, bid records, and subcontractor information.
- Collaborate with Estimators, project teams, architects, consultants, and Business Development throughout the Pre-Construction process.
- Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and bid reviews as needed.
