About The Position

The Assistant Residential Manager is responsible for supporting the Residential Managers in the daily operations of two DDS-licensed residential group homes located in Canterbury and Brooklyn, Connecticut. This leadership position is shared between both homes and focuses on ensuring quality services, staff support, regulatory compliance, and a safe, person-centered environment for the individuals served. The Assistant Residential Manager serves as a working supervisor by providing leadership to Direct Support Professionals, promoting teamwork and accountability, ensuring documentation and program standards are met, and assisting with the day-to-day operation of each residence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between the Canterbury and Brooklyn residential homes.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or senior Direct Support Professional experience preferred.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Connecticut DDS regulations and residential operations.
  • Experience supervising residential staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership, guidance, and support to Direct Support Professionals.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and help ensure adequate staffing coverage.
  • Coach, mentor, and train staff on agency policies, person-centered practices, and DDS requirements.
  • Conduct observations and provide constructive feedback to staff.
  • Assist with interviewing, onboarding, and orientation of new employees.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Assist Residential Managers with the overall operation of both group homes.
  • Ensure homes remain clean, organized, safe, and welcoming.
  • Conduct routine inspections of each home to identify maintenance, safety, and compliance concerns.
  • Monitor inventory of household supplies and coordinate purchasing as needed.
  • Assist in implementing emergency preparedness procedures and safety protocols.
  • Participate in the manager on-call rotation as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with Connecticut DDS regulations, agency policies, licensing standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Assist with internal audits, licensing visits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), and other person-specific plans.
  • Ensure required reports and documentation are completed within established timelines.
  • Promote independence, dignity, choice, and community inclusion for all individuals served.
  • Model person-centered support and positive behavioral practices.
  • Support individuals in recreational, vocational, educational, and community activities.
  • Advocate for individual rights while ensuring health and safety.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with families, guardians, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain regular communication with Residential Managers regarding staffing, operations, incidents, and program needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, leadership meetings, and required trainings.
  • Communicate professionally with DDS representatives, families, guardians, and community partners.
