About The Position

The Assistant Program Instructor will provide safe and challenging classes according to the YMCA and safety guidelines. Provide safe and challenging classes by adhering to all safety guidelines. Know and follow emergency procedures according to established guidelines mentioned above, as well as those specific to each program, and applicable to aquatic health codes. Aid in developing participants to their fullest potential and providing exceptional service. Complete all necessary paperwork and record keeping (e.g. accident reports, skill sheets, and progress reports. Prepare lesson plan for each class (using skill sheets and instruction manual as guidelines) and set up and put away all equipment BEFORE and AFTER class time. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude. Maintain a cooperative attitude when sharing site space, including maintaining an appropriate voice level and using space according to class needs and site provisions. Provide appropriate attention to class and participants and refrain from socializing with other personnel during class time. Take complete responsibility for scheduled hours and if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures. Perform other duties/ assignments as needed at the YMCA.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years of age and supervised by staff 18+ years of age in the room.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with sports coaches, staff and parents of youth sports participants.
  • Must have organizational and human relations skills in order to provide adequate support to sports programs.
  • Must possess/acquire knowledge of all aspects of the particular sports league.
  • Basic knowledge of the phases of physical education for all age groups served.
  • Completion of all position-specific and required YMCA training within established deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plan for each class (using skill sheets and instruction manual as guidelines) and get all equipment set up BEFORE class time begins and puts away after class ends (return materials and store neatly).
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude when sharing site space, including maintaining an appropriate voice level and using space according to class needs and site provisions.
  • Provide appropriate attention to class and participants and refrain from socializing with other personnel during class time.
  • Take complete responsibility for scheduled hours and if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures.
  • Perform other duties/ assignments as needed at the YMCA.
  • Visually inspect participation space and equipment for safety.
