About The Position

Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success. The Compass Urgent Accommodation Voucher program provides temporary emergency hotel rooms for families and pregnant people in crisis. In addition to a hotel room, the program helps families connect with services and a path to stable housing. The Assistant Program Director works with Program Director to oversee the day to day services of CUAV program and respond to emergency situations when they arise. This includes supervision of CUAV Staff, administrative and program design and implementation, as well as providing direct support to clients. The Assistant Director will work across multiple sites to support the needs of clients and staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in social work or a related field required
  • Deep understanding of issues facing homeless and low-income families.
  • Experience with deescalation and working with people in crisis.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening and communication skills
  • Outstanding work habits: organized, reliable, team-oriented
  • Ability to work independently as well as to inspire and lead a committed team
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and Zoom.
  • Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred
  • Candidates who speak fluent Spanish are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support case managers and other staff, including: hiring, training, scheduling, stepping in with tough client situations or lapses in coverage, supporting professional development, and evaluating performance.
  • Implement program policies equitably; de escalate and appropriately follow-up with clients when needed.
  • Build and cultivate collaborative community partnerships, including with funders.
  • Strengthen partnership and effective communication with partnership hotels and staff; respectfully advocate on behalf of clients and staff when necessary.
  • Assist with coordinating intakes, transfers and discharges
  • Represent the CUAV program in both internal and external meetings; offer shelter perspective on behalf of shelter clients and shelter staff.
  • Manage the CUAV program, in partnership with the Day Shift Assistant Program Director, in the absence of the Program Director
