About The Position

Community Access was founded in 1974 to provide housing and support for people being discharged from psychiatric institutions. Today, we are one of the leading providers of supportive and affordable housing in New York City, and the originators of an integrated housing model which has become a best practice nationally: affordable housing where families live alongside people living with mental health concerns. Our staff work daily to support thousands of New Yorkers through supportive and affordable housing, peer-driven residential crisis support programs, training, advocacy, supported education, mobile treatment and other healing-focused services. The Housing department provides permanent and affordable supportive housing for individuals living with mental health concerns and low-income community residents and families, as well as licensed transitional residential programs for individuals moving from institutions into the community. Services are geared towards assisting people in maintaining their housing and moving forward with their lives in stable community-based environments.

Requirements

  • Have an understanding, appreciation, and commitment to the philosophy and mission of Community Access, with particular expertise in harm reduction and recovery-oriented services.
  • Ability to train and support staff on the implementation of CA values and practice approach.
  • Minimum of two years working in supportive housing with people who have a history of homelessness, substance use, and/or mental health diagnosis.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work as part of a team, and skill in communicating program goals and holding people accountable to reaching them.
  • Ability to monitor details of program operation.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Be creative and flexible.
  • Ability to utilize various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Show initiative and be responsible for follow through.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, as related to position.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be skilled in conflict mediation/negotiation and have an assertive approach to problem solving.
  • Must be fingerprinted and cleared through a background clearance process.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred – work experience within field may be substituted for degree.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking, preferred.
  • Ability to speak other relevant languages, dependent on specific needs of program participants.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervisory oversight of the supportive housing program(s), including program leadership, staff development, service provision, community building, contract and budget management, and coordination with facility and property management.
  • Supports the Program Director to ensure that services are provided within the scope of the agency’s mission and values and are consistent with the needs and desires of individual participants.
  • Ensures that the program meets funder and agency standards for program census, staff recruitment, staff supervision, record keeping, reporting, budgeting and establishing and maintaining an environment for tenants and staff that is consistent with agency values.
  • Collaborates with other departments and programs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community members and organizations.
  • Alternates 24/7 on call responsibilities with the Program Director and services as back-up in the Program Director’s absence.
  • Ensures that building occupancy rate for supported units remains at 95%.
  • Ensures that all services, follow-up and documentation are completed on time, including 85% of assessments and service plans, timely review and update of incident reports, and timely submission of incident packets.
  • Ensures all assigned external/internal databases are up to date.
  • Ensures all assigned external/internal reports are completed and submitted on time.
  • Ensures program meets requirements for documented service hours with participants.
  • Holds and documents individual supervision meetings with all staff members assigned at least every two weeks and group supervision on alternate weeks.
  • Completes initial and annual performance evaluations and any corrective actions for staff on time.
  • Ensures that monthly policy reviews are completed with staff and documented in the Bridge Training Tracking system.
