About The Position

The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in urban sustainability, starting July 1, 2027. This role will complement and contribute to the Department’s expertise in human geography. The ideal candidate will be a scholar whose research and teaching focus on urban environmental change, emphasizing social, political, and/or economic responses to building resilient cities. The University of Ottawa is a leading bilingual university located in Canada's capital.

Requirements

Possess a doctorate (Ph.D.) by July 1, 2027 in Geography or a related discipline.
Excellent communication skills in English or French.
Active knowledge of Canada’s two official languages (French and English) is a requirement for tenure.
Evidence of an established and innovative research program and a record of refereed publications and scholarly conferences.
An ability to attract external funding.
Evidence of successful teaching at a post-secondary institution.

Nice To Haves

English-French bilingualism is an asset.
Experience attracting and supervising graduate students is an asset.

Responsibilities

Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in both French and English.
Conducting scholarly activities, research, and knowledge mobilization.
Engaging in academic service and administration of the department.
Recruiting and supervising students.
Establishing a rigorous research program that includes grants from major funding agencies or a clear plan to develop one.
Teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, in English and French.
