About The Position

The School of Music at Tennessee Tech University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Violin/Viola, beginning August 2027. Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.

Requirements

• Earned Doctorate in Music required (ABD may be considered)
• Evidence of excellence as a performer and teacher

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a professional performer in solo, orchestral, and chamber settings
• Experience as a teacher in higher education, in private instruction and/or in the public schools
• Evidence of success in recruiting/retaining high-level students
• Experience in Research, Scholarship and/or Creative Activity related to violin/viola/string performance and teaching
• Potential to develop a regional and national profile as a teacher and performer

Responsibilities

• Teaching Applied Violin and Viola
• Teaching string pedagogy courses and String Methods
• A supervisory/teaching role in the Tennessee Tech String Project
• Coaching string chamber groups
• Performing as Concertmaster with the resident professional Bryan Symphony Orchestra
• Assisting with string sectionals
• Actively recruit violin and viola students
• Build and maintain professional relationships with K-12 school music teachers
• Engage in university service and outreach
