About The Position

The Department of Public Health, established in 2024 and housed within the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Mississippi, is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor. This is a 9-month tenure-track position, with a potential start date as early as January 2027. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in epidemiology, as responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate public health courses in this area. A demonstrated record of, or strong potential for, an active and sustainable research program is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department’s mission, engage in service activities for the Department, School, University, and/or community, and foster collaborations with faculty and external partners.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in public health or a health-related field by the time of employment
• Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a health-related field
• Evidence of an active research agenda in public health, epidemiology, or a related area, with qualifications and scholarly accomplishments consistent with rank
• Evidence of the ability or potential to secure competitive extramural research funding
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship

Nice To Haves

• General epidemiologist with coursework in infectious diseases, but capable of teaching most undergraduate or MPH courses
• History of developing or working with partnerships with epidemiological agencies on the local, state, or federal level
• Involvement in professional organizations
• Experience developing and teaching online and hybrid courses
