About The Position

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking an Assistant Professor to provide 24-hour responsibility for healthcare. This role involves assisting in the coordination, scheduling, and administration of healthcare services across designated clinics, infirmary, and/or hospital settings. The position requires a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine, licensed or eligible for licensure in Mississippi. The Assistant Professor will supervise medical staff, request diagnostic tests and radiographic studies, participate in a rotational call schedule for after-hour emergencies, and adhere to all UMMC policies and procedures to maintain high standards of clinical operations and patient care. Responsibilities also include organizing and conducting diagnostic and treatment clinics, providing consultative services, planning and conducting control and treatment programs, organizing chronic care clinics, emphasizing health education, preparing records and reports, and promoting training programs for health personnel. Administrative and staff supervisory duties are also required. Management reserves the right to add or change duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine and licensed to practice medicine in the State of Mississippi or eligible to be licensed to practice medicine in the state of Mississippi.
  • Holder of medical license, or eligibility to be licensed, to practice medicine in the State of Mississippi.
  • Subject to irregular hours and weekends as needed.
  • Requires interactions with patients, families, and fellow employees on a daily and constant basis.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, infection, and radiation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs subordinates, such as licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, nurse assistants, lab and radiology personnel, and other medical staff in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Requests necessary laboratory tests for the purposes of appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Requests necessary radiographic studies for the purpose of appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Available for rotational call schedule to address after-hour emergencies.
  • Adherence to all pertinent policies and procedures of U.M.M.C and performs any tasks necessary to maintain high standards of a clinical operation and patient care.
  • Organizes and conducts general or specialized diagnostic and/or treatment clinics.
  • Renders consultative services in health matters to other staff members, public officials, voluntary health agencies, committees, organizations, and professional groups.
  • Plans and conducts various control and treatment programs, which may include specialized areas such as epidemiologic investigations.
  • Organizes, conducts, and supervises chronic care clinics and treatment programs.
  • Encourages and emphasizes health education.
  • Prepares and keeps necessary records and reports as may be indicated.
  • Promotes and assists in training programs for health personnel.
  • Performs administrative and staff supervisory duties as required.
