The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison invites applications for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Computational Biomedical Engineering. The department seeks researchers developing computational, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mathematical modeling approaches to address challenges in biomedical engineering and human health, particularly innovative methods and models that advance understanding, prediction, and engineering of biological systems. Areas of interest include AI-enabled therapeutic discovery and engineering; computational systems biology and medicine; multiscale modeling and digital twins; computational precision medicine; and computational approaches to tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, neuroengineering, biomechanics, biomedical imaging, and biomedical microtechnologies. Candidates advancing AI-enabled precision therapies are particularly encouraged, though outstanding candidates in other complementary areas will receive full consideration. Successful candidates will develop independent, predominantly computational research programs that complement and extend departmental capabilities and foster interdisciplinary collaborations across the university. These positions are intended for faculty whose research programs do not require dedicated wet-laboratory facilities. Experimental and clinical collaborations are strongly encouraged, with opportunities to work across the College of Engineering, School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Veterinary Medicine, and UW–Madison's broader research community. Faculty will establish and sustain innovative, externally funded research programs; teach and develop undergraduate and graduate biomedical engineering courses; mentor students and supervise research; participate in interdisciplinary collaborations; and contribute to departmental and university service, faculty governance, and professional activities. The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a rapidly expanding, collaborative research and educational community with strengths in cellular and tissue engineering, biomaterials, biomechanics, neuroengineering, biomedical imaging, systems biology, and biomedical microtechnologies. UW–Madison offers interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities and computational resources through the Center for High Throughput Computing, including over 40,000 CPU cores, 250+ GPUs, and over 5 PB of storage. Candidates may be eligible to participate in the Excellence in Mentoring Initiative, a campus-wide community committed to effective, inclusive mentorship and student success.
