Assistant Professor Biomedical Engineering

Universities of Wisconsin•Madison, WI

About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison invites applications for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Computational Biomedical Engineering. Successful candidates will develop independent, predominantly computational research programs that complement and extend departmental capabilities and foster interdisciplinary collaborations across the university. The positions are intended for faculty whose research programs do not require dedicated wet-laboratory facilities; experimental and clinical collaborations are strongly encouraged. Candidates will establish and sustain innovative, externally funded research programs; teach and develop undergraduate and graduate biomedical engineering courses; mentor students and supervise their research; participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations; and contribute to departmental and university service, faculty governance, and professional activities. Research interests may include AI-enabled therapeutic discovery and engineering, computational systems biology and medicine, multiscale modeling and digital twins, computational precision medicine, and computational approaches to areas such as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, neuroengineering, biomechanics, biomedical imaging, and biomedical microtechnologies. The department is a growing, collaborative research and educational community with strengths across biomedical engineering. UW–Madison offers opportunities for interdisciplinary work across its colleges, schools, research centers, and initiatives, as well as access to the Center for High Throughput Computing, including more than 40,000 CPU cores, 250+ GPUs, and over 5 PB of storage. Candidates may also be eligible to participate in the Excellence in Mentoring Initiative, which supports effective and inclusive mentoring practices and student success.
